Friedrichsplatz

Friedrichsplatz is an enormous square in the centre of Kassel, measuring 340 x 112m. Created in the 18th century, it is named after Friedrich II of Hesse-Kassel. On the east side is one of Kassel's finest buildings, the Museum Fridericianum.  The square is today the focal point of the documenta exhibitions held every 5 years.

I did not see the square at its best as they are erecting an enormous scaffolding structure in the middle, presumably in preparations for this year's documenta. On the south side there is a great view of the valley below.

Fratelli

Stopped at a little Italian bistro on the western side for lunch. It was a normal business day for the locals so I jumped in on the business lunchtime special menu.

Starter of good strong tasting Tomato soup served with fresh bread. Main course was a steamed fish of the day with a generous tomato and onion sauce, and baked potatoes. All washed down with a San Pellegrino sparkling mineral water.

Great lunchtime value for 11.50
