Day 4 - Treuchtlingen to Solnhofen

Our day began by crossing the Altmühl river and climbing over a ridge before making our way between some wheat fields back to the road at Dietfurt.  There followed a beautiful walk through a forest ultimately to the town of Pappenheim.  The main feature of the town is the impressive castle ruin perched atop the hill above the town centre.

The path away from Übermatzhofen towards Solnhofen.

Enjoyed some great views from the ridge between Pappenheim and Solnhofen towards the village of Übermatzhofen.

There was some late drama when we werevcaught in a thunderstorm just as we were entering our destination town of Solnhofen.  Very wet final few kilometres as we entered the town and then found our way down to the train station, making it just in time with the good grace of a patient train driver, who waited an extra 60 seconds for the ticket machine to deliver our tickets.

The irony was we were heading back to Pappenheim where our accommodation was booked at Hotel Zum Sonne. Arrived to a dark hotel but eventually found someone to check us in to our room.
